Ideal Implant logoDr. Mathew Mosher was one of the first area surgeons to offer breast augmentation with IDEAL IMPLANTs at his Vancouver, B.C.-area plastic surgery practice. The IDEAL structured breast implant represents a breakthrough innovation in cosmetic breast surgery, offering women a saline-filled implant that compares favorably to the natural look and feel of popular cohesive silicone gel implants.

Dr. Mosher is committed to offering patients the most advanced breast augmentation options at YES Medspa & Cosmetic Surgery Centre in Langley. The IDEAL IMPLANT Difference

Saline breast implants have remained the same for decades. Traditional saline implants consist of an outer silicone shell that is filled after insertion. It is similar to a water balloon and often moves like one as well. Static photos tend to look fine, but with movement and touch the traditional saline filled implants do not perform as well as cohesive silicone gel devices. Saline implants also are much more prone to wrinkling and rippling when compared to cohesive silicone gel filled devices.

The patented IDEAL IMPLANT design creates a structured implant that includes internal shells and 2 separate chambers that hold the saline solution. The simple, but effective design enables the implant to hold its shape and move more like natural breast tissue.

Women considering breast augmentation now have more breast implant options than ever before. Cohesive silicone gel implants remain the most popular implant choice, as women like the feel and movement of their augmented breasts compared to what is possible with previous models of saline implants.

The IDEAL IMPLANT is for women who want the natural feel offered by silicone gel implants but who prefer saline. Currently, the IDEAL IMPLANT is only available in higher profile or a more rounded shape that many women are seeking out. For those patients who need a broader variety of contours, Dr. Mosher is likely to recommend cohesive silicone gel filled devices. Although the newest generation of cohesive gel silicone implants have been exhaustively tested and proven safe, some patients are still more comfortable with saline implants.

The benefits of the IDEAL IMPLANT include:

  • No risk of “silent rupture”
  • Saline is safely absorbed by the body if the implant leaks
  • MRI scans are not necessary or recommended to detect rupture

Any woman who is a good candidate for breast augmentation may want to consider the IDEAL IMPLANT, especially if she wants rounder, higher profile shapes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a “silent rupture?”

The consistency of cohesive silicone gel implants is similar to that of “Jell-O.” If the shell ruptures, they will continue to look and feel normal for many weeks or months. This feature delays the diagnosis until the rupture is severe or the rupture is detected with an imaging scan. The most effective scan is an MRI, which can still miss the diagnosis in up to 5% of ruptured cohesive silicone gel implant failures.

Some women are concerned that an unrecognized silicone gel implant rupture will result in silicone gel migrating to other adjacent tissue. Currently, the FDA recommends that all women with cohesive silicone gel implants have an MRI every 2 years to try and identify leaking implants that appear to the patient and their plastic surgeon to be performing normally. On the other hand, a leaking saline implant deflates quickly. Saline is absorbed safely by the body letting you know immediately when the device needs replacement.

How long do IDEAL IMPLANTS last?

Current longer term studies are ongoing. However, the rupture rate of the IDEAL IMPLANT in the first 5 years has been demonstrated to be similar or less than rates of rupture of the currently available cohesive silicone gel devices. Longer term rupture rates for the IDEAL IMPLANT and for the most advanced cohesive silicone gel filled implant will only be known with more time and follow-up.

Do IDEAL IMPLANTS have a guarantee?

These implants have a comparable limited warranty to other breast implants that are approved in Canada. Essentially, there is a lifetime warranty that will help patients with some of the costs associated with replacing a deflated implant. Details of the limited warranty are available to review online at:

How many IDEAL IMPLANT sizes are there?

There are currently 14 different round sizes. You and Dr. Mosher can collaborate to select the size that best suits your tissues and your desired outcome.

Can the IDEAL IMPLANT be placed above the muscle?

The best position for any implant is determined during your consultation when your tissues and goals are assessed. The IDEAL IMPLANT is an improvement over other saline-filled devices but still performs better and has fewer problems with rippling and capsular contracture when placed into a pocket that is underneath the muscle.

What is the cost of the IDEAL IMPLANT?

At this point the price of the IDEAL IMPLANT is slightly more than that of silicone gel implants. However, it’s important to factor in the cost of MRI scans that are recommended every 2 years for women who have silicone gel implants. For many women, the peace of mind that comes with choosing the IDEAL IMPLANT is worth the additional cost.
