Dr. Mosher and his experienced team understand the excitement and the nervousness most women feel after making the decision to have breast augmentation surgery. At his Langley facility, Dr. Mosher will spend the time needed to help patients to understand their options and takes pride in guiding patients through every step in the process. Dr. Mosher has performed breast augmentation surgery on thousands of women and constantly refines his approach to achieve more natural looking results while lowering the risks of complications from surgery and the need for revisional procedures over the longer term. We help patients to choose from the best available breast implants that are approved in Canada. These include Mentor MemoryGel implants, as well as IDEAL structured saline implants.

Women from all around Vancouver visit us for breast enlargement. To get started, request a consultation with Dr. Mosher, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, at YES Medspa & Cosmetic Surgery Centre in Langley. He and his compassionate, experienced staff will help you to fully understand all of your options for breast enhancement.

Dr. Mosher’s Approach

For women who desire fuller, shapelier breasts, Dr. Mosher performs breast augmentation surgery using either cohesive silicone gel or saline breast implants. There are numerous approaches to this procedure, and not all surgeons offer the full range of options. Dr. Mosher understands the importance of choosing the best implant type, implant pocket location and incision placement, and will help you to decide which options are the best choices for your appearance and your lifestyle.

Achieving natural looking results and a rapid recovery are essential goals of our approach to breast augmentation surgery. Even more important is the careful assessment of your body shape, tissue characteristics and personal desires for breast enhancement. These features will determine the implant type and size that will optimize your results and minimize your risks of revisional breast surgeries during your lifetime.

Breast augmentation is one of Dr. Mosher’s most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, and is a safe and effective means of balancing out your figure and enhancing your femininity. Through the placement of breast implants, Dr. Mosher can increase your breast volume, and improve breast asymmetry (breasts of different size). Breast implants can also help early degrees of breast sagging, but typically a breast lift is performed, either alone or with breast augmentation, to address this concern.

Good Candidates for Breast Augmentation

What makes someone a good candidate for breast augmentation? Firstly, you should be in good overall health and have made the choice to get breast implants because it’s what you want, rather than because your spouse or significant other wants you to have larger breasts. Secondly, patients must have realistic expectations about what breast enhancement surgery can accomplish for their unique anatomy. During the consultation, Dr. Mosher uses his expertise to recommend the type and size of implants as well as the surgical techniques that will be best-suited to achieve the aesthetic goals you describe.

Finally, breast augmentation patients should be healthy and should not be pregnant or breastfeeding at the time of the procedure.

Women considering breast augmentation, or those who already have breast implants, may have read or heard about Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). BIA-ALCL is a rare illness linked to certain implants, which have been the subject of many news stories and discussions in the news and social media. The condition has been researched extensively and Dr. Mathew Mosher wants to ensure our patients are fully informed about the remote risk of BIA-ALCL and breast implant illness (BII) when considering breast augmentation.

Based on clinical information provided by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, we’ve provided this page and another about BII to help answer your questions about BIA-ALCL.

Your Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient general anesthetic procedure at our modern and fully accredited YES Surgery Centre, located on the same floor as our office. Dr. Mosher has refined the breast augmentation surgery to reduce the duration of the procedure, reduce the risks of complications and to reduce the rates of revisional surgery over the life span of your breast implants. He and his hand-selected team of professionals have completed more than 5,000 breast augmentation procedures with a less than 1% risk of early complications that would require more surgery or medical treatment. Our patients benefit from our proprietary Recipe for Recovery™ which reduces their post-operative pain and speeds their return to regular daily activities.

Once you’ve decided to have breast augmentation, there are many options available for tailoring your procedure.

Breast Implants

Dr. Mosher has extensive experience with the most recent innovations in breast implants available in the Vancouver area. He offers a full range of options, including MemoryGel® implants. Dr. Mosher also has extensive experience with saline filled breast implants and specifically IDEAL structure saline filled implants. Your choices include:

  • Saline implants are filled with a medical grade saltwater solution which is harmlessly absorbed by the body if leakage or rupture occurs. Since saline implants are filled after placement, they can be inserted through more incision locations and their final volume adjusted in the operating room to achieve optimal results. Despite these features, these have become less popular choices in recent years for a variety of reasons. Generally, when compared to silicone gel implants, patients find that saline implants feel and move less like natural breast tissue. They have also been associated with a higher rate of revisional surgery attributable to factors such as more frequent problems of implant shell ripples and wrinkles.
  • Silicone gel filled implants have rapidly gained in popularity among breast augmentation patients since becoming approved by Health Canada in 2001.
  • IDEAL Implants® provide an innovative saline-filled breast implant for women who want the natural feel of silicone gel implants but prefer the concept of a saline implant. The IDEAL structured breast implant has been designed to perform and feel like the best of the cohesive silicone gel implants available. Dr. Mosher was one of the first Plastic Surgeons in Canada to offer this device and now has extensive and favorable experiences for patients wanting a saline filled implant that performs like silicone gel. There are fewer size and profile choices available of this device compared to other options.

Patients considering breast augmentation surgery will also be educated about available implant shapes and profiles. Anatomical or contoured implant shapes rarely recommended but are available for particularly challenging breast shape asymmetries. The most commonly recommended shapes are round implants. When appropriately selected to match the anatomical features of each patient, a round implant can achieve natural looking results with more filling of the central and upper breast contours. The implant profile selection permits a more customized “fit” for each patient.

Implant Options

Dr. Mosher offers VECTRA® 3-D imaging to help patients better understand their unique anatomy and can preview the final outcome associated with implant recommendations. This innovative and scientifically validated system, captures a 3D photo of your body and permits simulations of your breast augmentation surgery outcome. YES Cosmetic Surgery Centre was the first Plastic Surgery clinic in the Vancouver area to offer VECTRA® 3-D and the recent advances in this technology has facilitated Dr. Mosher’s commitment to offering the latest tools to help patient understand their options.

Incision Location

Dr. Mosher considers different incision options for each patient through which the implant is inserted.

Incision Options

  • Inframammary incision: a 3–5 cm long incision placed along the natural crease under the breast
  • Periareolar incision: a 4–6 cm long incision along the bottom edge of the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple).

Dr. Mosher explains the benefits of each option and he will help you understand how your body type and the type of implant being used influence which type of incision would be most effective. After making the incision, he inserts the implant into the breast pocket either beneath the breast tissue (subglandular), or under both the breast tissue and the chest muscles (subpectoral). One method isn’t necessarily better than the other, but your best option will depend on a variety of factors, which Dr. Mosher can help you determine.

Dr. Mosher uses careful surgical techniques and instruments that minimize tissue trauma, resulting in less bruising and bleeding for a much more comfortable and rapid recovery.

Recovery and Results

Dr. Mosher’s high level of experience and surgical skill allows him to minimize stretching and trauma to surrounding tissues, which greatly reduces post-operative discomfort. Some swelling and discomfort are to be expected, and these are managed with oral medications, stretching exercises and cool compresses. You will wear a snug-fitting sports bra for approximately 2 weeks to provide support and to help with healing.

Our unique program for rapid recovery following breast augmentation allows many of our patients to go out for dinner in the evening following their surgery. Most patients return to light activity and work within a few days of their surgery, but strenuous exercise or weight lifting must be avoided for at least 4 weeks. Your breasts will look noticeably larger right away, but it will take up to 3 months for the tissues to relax and for the breasts to “settle” into a more natural shape.
