Women from all around Vancouver visit us for breast enlargement. He and his compassionate, experienced staff will help you to fully understand all of your options for breast enhancement.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
This plastic surgery procedure involves enhancing the breasts with breast implants or fat grafting. Breast augmentation can provide a variety of benefits, including:
- Increasing breast size
- Restoring breast volume lost to breastfeeding or weight loss
- Enhancing breast shape
- Improving breast symmetry (when breasts are different sizes)
Breast implants can also help early degrees of breast sagging, but typically a breast lift is performed, either alone or with breast augmentation, to address this concern.
How Much Does Breast Augmentation Surgery Cost Near Vancouver?
The actual price of breast augmentation for metro Vancouver women varies with the choice of implants, the complexity of the surgery, and whether it will be combined with other procedures. You will be provided with a quote for your procedure as part of your consultation with Dr. Mosher. Patient financing is available to help most patients afford to pursue their desired improvements without delay. For the best possible surgical outcome, it’s important to consider a surgeon’s training, experience, and patient outcomes (before & after photos) above cost.
Dr. Mosher’s Approach
For women who desire fuller, shapelier breasts, Dr. Mosher performs breast augmentation surgery using either cohesive silicone gel or saline breast implants. There are numerous approaches to this procedure, and not all surgeons offer the full range of options. Dr. Mosher understands the importance of choosing the best implant type, implant pocket location and incision placement, and will help you to decide which options are the best choices for your appearance and your lifestyle.
Will My Results Look Natural?
Achieving natural looking results and a rapid recovery are essential goals of our approach to breast augmentation surgery. Even more important is the careful assessment of your body shape, tissue characteristics and personal desires for breast enhancement. These features will determine the implant type and size that will optimize your results and minimize your risks of revisional breast surgeries during your lifetime.

Good Candidates for Breast Augmentation
You are likely a good candidate for breast augmentation if you:
- Are in good overall health—physically and emotionally.
- Have made the choice to get breast implants because it’s what you want, rather than because your spouse or significant other wants you to have larger breasts.
- Have realistic expectations about what breast enhancement surgery can accomplish for your unique anatomy.
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
During the consultation, Dr. Mosher uses his expertise to recommend the type and size of implants as well as the surgical techniques that will be best-suited to achieve the aesthetic goals you describe.
What Should I Know About BIA-ALCL and BII?
Women considering breast augmentation, or those who already have breast implants, may have read or heard about Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). BIA-ALCL is a rare illness linked to certain implants, which have been the subject of many news stories and discussions in the news and social media. The condition has been researched extensively and Dr. Mathew Mosher wants to ensure our patients are fully informed about the remote risk of BIA-ALCL and breast implant illness (BII) when considering breast augmentation.
Based on clinical information provided by The Aesthetic Society (formerly the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery or ASAPS), we’ve provided this page and another about BII to help answer your questions.
Breast Augmentation With Fat Transfer
Some of the women considering breast augmentation at YES Cosmetic Surgery Centre are interested in enhancing the size of their breasts without implants. Transferring unwanted fat from another area of the body to the breasts—a technique called fat grafting or fat transfer—has become a common option for breast augmentation patients at our practice. Fat grafting is not a new technique for improving the contours of a patient’s face, breast, or body. Dr. Mosher has been performing the natural breast augmentation procedure on selected patients for more than 20 years.
Recent technique improvements, however, have resulted in more predictable and safer outcomes. Transferring large volumes of fat isn’t predictable, so patients who want a significant increase in the size of their breasts are typically not good candidates for breast fat grafting. Women seeking an increase of 1 to 2 bra cup sizes, or less than 200 cc of additional volume, are often able to achieve this lasting enhancement using their own fat. A secondary benefit of this technique is improving the shape in areas of the body where Dr. Mosher typically harvests the fat, such as the thighs, abdomen, or flanks. Experience and technique are essential components of more successful and safer fat augmentation procedures.
Tightening Breast Skin
For patients with stretched and damaged breast skin, breast augmentation and breast lifting results will be compromised. One of the newest options to enhance your cosmetic breast surgery results is improving the strength and thickness of your breast skin with Morpheus8 treatments. This breakthrough technology can be used anywhere on the body to tone and rejuvenate skin qualities. Dr. Mosher may recommend this as an adjunct to your breast enhancement surgery.

Can Breast Enhancement Surgery Be Combined With Other Procedures?
With a carefully developed surgical plan, it is safe to combine other procedures with breast augmentation. Many women have Dr. Mosher address multiple concerns at once by combining breast augmentation with one or more of the following options as part of a Mommy Makeover:
Some patients include nonsurgical treatments in their treatment plan such as laser skin rejuvenation or Morpheus8 microneedling.
Breast Augmentation vs. Breast Lift
Many women considering breast enhancement surgery wonder if they should get breast augmentation or a breast lift. In some cases, the answer is both. The right choice for you depends on whether your breasts have moderate to severe sagging. Breast implants add volume to the breasts and can make the appearance of sagging breasts worse without combining augmentation with a breast lift. If a patient has only mild sagging, implants can create a lifted appearance without needing breast lift surgery.
Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
Dr. Mosher performs breast augmentation as an outpatient general anesthetic procedure at our modern and fully accredited YES Surgery Centre, located on the same floor as our office. He has refined his techniques to shorten the duration of the procedure, reduce the risks of complications, and diminish the rates of revisional surgery over the life span of your breast implants. He and his hand-selected team of professionals have completed more than 5,000 breast augmentation procedures with a less than 1% risk of early complications that would require more surgery or medical treatment. Our patients benefit from our proprietary Recipe for Recovery™, which reduces their post-operative pain and speeds their return to regular daily activities.
Breast Implant Options
Dr. Mosher has extensive experience with the most recent innovations in breast implants available in the Vancouver area. He offers a full range of options, including MemoryGel® implants. Dr. Mosher also has extensive experience with saline filled breast implants. Your choices include:
These implants are filled with a medical grade saltwater solution that is harmlessly absorbed by the body if leakage or rupture occurs. Since saline implants are filled after placement, they can be inserted through more incision locations and their final volume adjusted in the operating room to achieve optimal results. Despite these features, saline implants have become less popular choices in recent years for a variety of reasons. Generally, when compared to silicone gel implants, patients find that saline implants feel and move less like natural breast tissue. They have also been associated with a higher rate of revisional surgery attributable to factors such as more frequent problems of implant shell ripples and wrinkles.
Silicone gel filled implants
Since Health Canada approved silicone gel implants in 2001, they have rapidly gained popularity among breast augmentation patients. The gel filling in these implants have different levels of cohesiveness, and the patient’s choice is based on personal preference for the look and feel of the implant.
Implant Shape & Profile
We educate patients considering breast augmentation surgery about available implant shapes and profiles. Anatomical or contoured implant shapes are rarely recommended but are available for particularly challenging breast shape asymmetries. The most commonly recommended shapes are round implants. When appropriately selected to match the anatomical features of each patient, a round implant can achieve natural-looking results with more filling of the central and upper breast contours.
The implant profile refers to the projection of the implant from a profile view. Different profile options include:
These different options enable Dr. Mosher to create a more customized “fit” for each patient.
Dr. Mosher offers VECTRA® 3-D imaging to help patients better understand their unique anatomy and can preview the final outcome associated with implant recommendations. This innovative and scientifically validated system, captures a 3D photo of your body and permits simulations of your breast augmentation surgery outcome. YES Cosmetic Surgery Centre was the first plastic surgery clinic in the Vancouver area to offer VECTRA® 3-D, and the recent advances in this technology have facilitated Dr. Mosher’s commitment to offering the latest tools to help patients understand their options.
Incision Location Options
Dr. Mosher chooses from the following incision techniques when performing breast augmentation:
- Inframammary incision: a 3 to 5 cm incision placed along the natural crease under the breast
- Periareolar incision: a 4 to 6 cm incision placed along the bottom edge of the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple)
Dr. Mosher explains the benefits of each option and he will help you understand how your body type and the type of implant being used influence which type of incision would be most effective.
After making the incision, Dr. Mosher inserts the implant into the breast pocket. These options include:
- Behind the breast tissue (subglandular)
- Behind the chest muscle (submuscular)
One method isn’t necessarily better than the other, but your best option will depend on a variety of factors, which Dr. Mosher can help you determine.

Rapid Recovery Breast Augmentation
Dr. Mosher uses careful surgical techniques and specialized instruments that minimize tissue trauma, resulting in less bruising and bleeding for a much more comfortable and rapid recovery. Our unique program for rapid recovery following breast augmentation allows many of our patients to go out for dinner in the evening following their surgery.
Even though each patient recovers at her own pace, here is a general timeline for what you can expect:
Day of surgery: Expect the breasts to sit very high on the chest and feel tight and firm. There is mild to moderate bruising and swelling. You’ll feel more sore if the implants were placed under the chest muscle. Expect some swelling and discomfort initially; these can be managed with oral medications, stretching exercises, and cool compresses. We recommend sleeping on your back with your upper body slightly elevated for at least 2 weeks.
Days 2 to 5: You can shower 24 hours after the surgery. Avoid bending over or doing anything that increases tension on your incisions. Patients often return to non-physical jobs within 5 days of the procedure. You will wear a snug-fitting sports bra for approximately 2 weeks to provide support and to help with healing.
Weeks 2 to 6: During this time, any pain, discomfort, or soreness should be significantly abated. At this juncture, you can resume most of your regular physical activities, except high-impact activity or upper body exercises. Continue wearing a support bra or a sports bra to ensure that your breasts are supported. Strenuous exercise or weightlifting must be avoided for at least 4 weeks.
Week 6 and beyond: At about 6 weeks after surgery, implants usually start to “drop-and-fluff.” It will take about 3 months for the implants to settle and the final results to appear.

Breast Augmentation FAQ
How long after breast augmentation will I see results?
Your breasts will look noticeably larger right away, but it will take up to 3 months for the tissues to relax and for the breasts to “settle” into a more natural shape.
Are boob jobs painful?
Dr. Mosher minimizes post-op discomfort significantly through his refined surgical techniques that limit stretching and trauma to surrounding tissues. Many of his breast augmentation patients even feel up to going out for dinner the evening following their surgery because of our proprietary Recipe for Recovery™ protocol.
Is the surgery safe?
Breast augmentation is a safe procedure when the patient, plastic surgeon, and surgical facility are carefully chosen. One of Dr. Mosher’s most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, breast augmentation is a safe and effective means of balancing out your figure and enhancing your femininity.
Can I breastfeed after a breast augmentation?
Breast implants should not interfer with your ability to breastfeed. When performing the surgery, Dr. Mosher can account for your desire to breastfeed and optimize your chances for success. It’s important to tell him about your future goal during the consultation.
Will my implants last forever?
While today’s breast implants are more durable than ever, they aren’t made to last a lifetime. Most do last at least 10 years and don’t need to be replaced if there are no concerns or complications. Dr. Mosher can perform elective breast augmentation revision to exchange implants for a different size, fill material, or type.
