Breast Implants

Dr. Mathew Mosher and Dr. Sofie Schlagintweit offer our Vancouver-areas patients a variety of breast implant options not available at most other practices. These options help create natural-looking breast enhancement that complement each patient’s individual body type. You can learn more about implant options on our Breast Augmentation FAQ page.

Silicone Gel or Saline Implants?

One of the first decisions patients make is choosing the implant material that most effectively creates the look and feel they want. We offer a variety of Health Canada-approved implants for breast augmentation that are filled with either silicone gel or saline. The most commonly used implants are highly cohesive silicone-gel implants from Allergan® or Sientra®. These implants have a more cohesive or firmer gel filler material that helps maintain the shape of the implant and reduce visible rippling. Not all cohesive silicone-gel implants are the same, but our plastic surgeons use their experience to recommend the best options for you.

Implant Shape and Profile

At YES Cosmetic Surgery Centre we offer a variety of breast implant shapes and profiles to suit a wide array of body types. An implant’s profile refers to the amount of projection in relation to the base diameter (i.e. how far the implant protrudes from the body).

At your consultation, your plastic surgeon will analyzes your body’s proportions and anatomy to determine the best size, shape and profile that will provide you with the results you desire. This analysis also includes the use of the VECTRA® 3-D imaging technology which gives you the chance to see 3D renderings of your potential results with different sizes of implants. YES Cosmetic Surgery Centre was the first practice in the Vancouver area to offer this technology. As medical director of YES, Dr. Mosher is committed to offering the latest technologies available to help patients better understand their options and feel comfortable with all aspects of the surgical planning process.

Women also consider breast enhancement surgery to correct asymmetrical (uneven) breasts or as part of revision breast surgery to remove or replace implants.

Incision Methods

Incision placement is a personal decision. Our surgeons pride themselves on providing incisions that are discreet. During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will recommend the incision placement that is best suited for your surgical plan. For breast augmentation surgery, our surgeons offer two different incision placement options.:

  • Inframammary Incision: along the natural crease under the breast
  • Peri-areolar Incision: around the lower edge of the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple)

During consultation, your surgeon will explain the benefits of each option, helping you to understand how your body type and the type of implant factors into deciding which type of incision would be most effective.

Implant Location

During breast augmentation surgery, the implant is inserted through a small incision into a pocket created either in front of or behind the pectoral muscle. One method isn’t necessarily better than the other, but your best option will depend on a variety of factors, which your plastic surgeon can help you determine. When the implant is placed behind the muscle, a more natural result is achieved.
