Laser Hair Reduction

Many women and men are embarrassed and annoyed by unwanted hair on the body or face. Shaving, waxing, plucking, or using chemical depilatories can be time-consuming, messy and painful, and often they do not produce long-lasting results.

Advanced technology makes life easier. That’s why laser hair removal at our Langley, BC, medspa is one of the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedures with people from Abbotsford, Burnaby, and surrounding communities. This quick, comfortable treatment can reduce hair growth in targeted areas, avoiding the inconvenience of other hair removal methods.

Visit YES Medspa in the Vancouver area for advanced laser hair removal. To get started, request a consultation or call our office at (604) 888-9378. Our medical director, Royal College-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mathew Mosher, oversees all treatments and services.

Hair Removal Treatments

Our hair removal treatments can be used for most areas of the body that you wish were smooth and hairless, including the face, arms, underarms, back, bikini area, lower abdomen, and legs.

Potential Benefits

When it comes to effective, lasting hair removal, our Vectus® Laser provides many advantages, including:

  • Effective reduction of hair on the face and body
  • Improved patient comfort
  • Excellent results for a wide range of skin and hair types
  • Fast treatments even on large areas (such as the legs, chest, and back)

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Our Vectus Laser uses laser energy to heat up pigment in the actively growing hair follicles without harming the surface of the skin. The damaged follicles are disabled and stop producing hair.

The Vectus Laser offers a large spot size to cover large areas faster as well as Contact Cooling™ so that the skin remains cool and comfortable throughout the treatment.

The Skintel® Melanin Reader™ is used at every treatment to measure the pigment in the skin to ensure the safest settings are used during your treatment.

This exciting laser technology has made laser hair removal faster, more effective, and more comfortable on most skin and hair types.

What to Expect

After you have consulted with our highly experienced technicians to determine whether laser hair reduction is right for you, Dr. Mosher will meet with you to discuss your treatment program.

You will be asked to come clean shaven for your first appointment. Your technician will apply a light serum to the skin prior to treatment. Short pulses of energy will then be delivered consecutively to the treatment area. Laser hair removal treatments involve minimal discomfort. Many describe the sensation as a snapping or sharp prick, followed by brief redness and in some cases mild heat.  The Contact Cooling™ in the hand-piece helps alleviate any discomfort.

After your treatment, your technician will apply a soothing cream and sunscreen.

Treating small areas such as the face, underarms, bikini area or lower abdomen takes only a few minutes. Larger areas such as the legs or back can be completed in less than half an hour.

You might even have time to perk up your skin with one of our skin rejuvenation treatments.

For clients with darker skin tones or those more prone to pigmentation concerns. Your technician will administer a test pulse and ask you to come back in 48 hours to assess your skin’s healing prior to starting your treatment package.

What Can You Not Do After Laser Hair Removal?

While treated areas may look mildly red, like a sunburn, you can continue your normal activities after hair removal, including shaving between treatments. That being said, we do recommend avoiding exercise, hot tubs, and sauna for 24 hours after your laser treatment. To avoid skin darkening (hyperpigmentation), it is very important to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily whenever the skin is exposed to the elements. When possible, we recommend that you completely avoid sun exposure and sun-tanning to the treated area during your treatment series.

How Many Treatments Are Needed for Laser Hair Removal?

For optimal hair reduction, we recommend starting with a series of 6 treatments. Some clients will need upwards of 12 treatments to see desired hair reduction results. Only the actively growing hairs are affected during each treatment session, therefore not all follicles will be targeted at each treatment. Resting or dormant follicles will not be destroyed until the follicles begin producing mature hair. Treatment intervals are usually spaced 4 to 12 weeks apart based on the treatment zone to improve efficiency and achieve lasting hair-growth reduction.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

For unknown reasons, some patients respond better than others. Nearly all patients experience some degree of hair reduction, meaning fewer hairs, as well as the remaining hair becoming less coarse and lighter in color. Approximately 50% of clients have little or no hair growth over the long term after a series of at least 5 treatments.
